Blancpain x Swatch: Celebrating 70 Years of Diving Excellence

The Blancpain x Swatch collaboration honors the iconic Fifty Fathoms, the first true diver’s watch, which revolutionized underwater exploration. Created 70 years ago by Jean-Jacques Fiechter, a passionate scuba diver, the Fifty Fathoms was the first timepiece that met all the essential needs of underwater adventurers. In this collaboration, Swatch has introduced the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection, combining Blancpain’s rich history in diving watches with Swatch’s innovative design and sustainable approach. This collection brings the spirit of ocean exploration to life, offering mechanical watches powered by Swatch's SISTEM51 movement and featuring stunning ocean-inspired designs.

The Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection

Each watch in the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection celebrates a different ocean and its unique marine life, focusing on the vivid, colorful nudibranchs – marine creatures known for their dazzling, intricate patterns. These nudibranchs are featured in beautiful digital prints on the movement’s rotor, adding a personal touch to each timepiece.

Let’s explore the features of each model:

Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon model is inspired by the tranquil beauty of lagoons, offering a harmonious blend of blue hues. The watch features a turquoise-blue Bioceramic case, pin buckle, and loops, complemented by a darker blue dial and bezel. The vibrant Tambja Mullineri nudibranch, found in lagoons, is represented on the rotor, showcasing its dazzling colors. Powered by the SISTEM51 mechanical movement, this watch is a perfect tribute to the colorful aquatic environments that captivate divers worldwide.

Ocean of Storms

Named after the Oceanus Procellarum – the largest lunar mare on the moon – the Ocean of Storms model embraces the moon’s black, mysterious landscape. The black Bioceramic case, NATO strap made from recycled fishing nets, and a sunbrushed black dial evoke the deep, unknown reaches of space. The nudibranch Okenia Luna and a digital print of the moon’s surface appear on the rotor, tying the watch to its lunar inspiration. This model is for those who are drawn to the mysteries of both the ocean and outer space.

Arctic Ocean

Inspired by the icy waters of the Arctic Ocean, this model stands out with a unique symbol on the dial that references Blancpain’s legacy in diver’s watches. The red and yellow symbol, accompanied by the phrase “NO RADIATIONS,” recalls the launch of Blancpain’s radium-free diver’s watch from the 1960s. The Dendronotus Frondosus, a fiery red nudibranch, adorns the back of the watch, while the gradient dial and Bioceramic case evoke the cool, serene beauty of the Arctic.

Pacific Ocean

The Pacific Ocean model celebrates the largest and deepest of the world’s oceans, drawing inspiration from the bright colors of the Chromodoris Kuiteri nudibranch. The watch features a yellow-orange Bioceramic case and NATO strap crafted from recycled fishing nets, along with a striking black and white gradient dial. With its bold color scheme, this timepiece is as lively as the Pacific’s underwater world.

Atlantic Ocean

Paying tribute to the stormy seas of the Atlantic Ocean, this model features deep blue shades that reflect the ocean’s intense power. The Glaucus Atlanticus, known as the blue dragon, is the inspiration behind the watch’s color scheme. With its Bioceramic case, gradient dial, and a NATO strap made from recycled fishing nets, this timepiece captures the wild, unpredictable nature of the Atlantic’s waters.

Indian Ocean

Inspired by the lush waters of the Indian Ocean, this watch evokes the vibrant green shades found in coral reefs teeming with marine life. The Nembrotha Kubaryana nudibranch, featured on the back of the watch, adds a lively touch. The watch’s green Bioceramic case, gradient dial, and recycled NATO strap reflect the lush environment of the Indian Ocean, making this a standout piece for nature enthusiasts.

Antarctic Ocean

Designed to withstand the harshest conditions on Earth, the Antarctic Ocean model is a nod to the extreme environment of Antarctica. The watch features a gray gradient dial with a bicolor water contact indicator, a feature prized by watch collectors and divers alike. The Tritoniella Belli nudibranch, with its iceberg-like appearance, is displayed on the rotor, while the watch’s Bioceramic case and NATO strap are inspired by the cold, unforgiving beauty of the Antarctic.

SISTEM51 Movement

At the heart of each timepiece is the SISTEM51 movement, a mechanical marvel that revolutionized watchmaking when it was introduced by Swatch in 2013. With just 51 parts, including a single central screw, this fully automated movement offers a 90-hour power reserve and is entirely anti-magnetic thanks to its Nivachron™ hairspring. The transparent case back allows you to see the mechanical movement in action, while the nudibranchs featured on the rotors add a colorful, aquatic touch to each model.

The Legacy Continues

The Blancpain x Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection is a stunning tribute to the Fifty Fathoms' legacy, combining Blancpain’s expertise in diving watches with Swatch’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. With each watch offering a unique ocean-inspired design and powered by Swatch’s SISTEM51 mechanical movement, this collection celebrates both the world’s oceans and the spirit of adventure.
